Dr. Benjamin McLane Spock (May 2, 1903 – March 15, 1998) was an American pediatrician and left-wing political activist who published highly-acclaimed child rearing books including Baby and Child Care (1946), a best-selling title of the 20th century. Benjamin Spock would go on to protest against the Vietnam War and attempted a run for president in 1972.
He is mentioned thrice in the 1950s Peanuts comic strips, likely for his groundbreaking approach to parenting.
- August 9, 1956 - Violet says that nobody likes Charlie Brown, who argues Dr. Spock does.
- January 8, 1958 - Lucy and Charlie Brown agree when they read one of Dr. Spock's books.
- November 1, 1959 - Linus tricks Sally and Snoopy away from his blanket by saying Dr. Spock and a nice veterinarian are at the front door.
Benjamin Spock was reportedly a fan of Peanuts[1] and corresponded with Charles M. Schulz.[2]
