In Linus van Pelt's imagination, there are different animals residing in the countryside which can pose a threat to people. These include Gully Cats and Queen Snakes. Both are a figment of his imagination, and other characters will respond confused about the often outlandish habits and characteristics of these animals.
Gully Cats[]
In 1971, Linus was writing about "Wild Animals of the West" for school which led him to introduce the Gully Cat for the first time. His sister, Lucy, was the first to react confused. That week, Linus was reading his article to his class and would receive a poor grade from his teacher, "Nice Try". He from then on expressed his relief he does not live near any gullies. Lucy calls his idea "stupid" after the school project. The following June, Linus and Charlie Brown go camping to where Linus reveals Gully Cats will bite a person on the arm because they know Tennis Rackets are made with Gully Cat gut... Not Nylon.
The last mention of Gully Cats is when a strange creature is in Woodstock's nest.
Characteristics[]
- They live in gullies, much like Mountain Lions live in mountains
- They are fierce; never grieve a gully cat!
- Immune to the bite of Queen Snakes
- They howl at night
- You could get rid of them by filling in all the gullies (with cement, maybe)
- Tennis rackets made with gully cat gut (not nylon)
Queen Snakes[]
In 1962, Linus became afraid of Queen Snakes. He first mistakes an old tree branch for one, then in 1966 he refuses to go to camp because Queen Snakes will chomp you in the woods. Lucy, whom he tells this to, happily makes him go, to his chagrin. Snoopy appears to be aware of Queen snakes to, as in 1968 he expressed satisfaction in a Star falling on a queen snake, which lets him fall asleep. In 1972, Linus is concerned about the "New Improved" queen snake, which may have terrorized the girl's camp in 1972, as Linus believed they saw one there.
Linus is scared of a queen snake.

There is also the fear of Hedge Toads in the neighborhood, as Snoopy points out they can Hop on you is you are under a tree. One is of concern when there is a strange creature in Woodstock's nest.
