"Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" is an English Christmas carol which first appeared in print in 1739.
In A Charlie Brown Christmas, the tune is hummed by the children’s choir of St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Vince Guaraldi on Hammond organ. In It's Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown, it is sung by Pentatonix and the All-American Boys Chorus in celebration of the special.
TV Version[]
The take that ended up being used in the television special differentiates slightly from the take used on the album. This can be best noted by the timing of the vocals and the scope of the background organ. The special was later edited to remove the Coca-Cola sponsor references which resulted in the song fading out early rather than concluding on screen.
Lyrics[]
- Hark! the herald angels sing
- Glory to the newborn King
- Peace on earth, and mercy mild
- God and sinners reconciled
- Joyful, all ye nations, rise
- Join the triumph of the skies
- With angelic host proclaim
- Christ is born in Bethlehem
- Hark, the herald angels sing
- Glory to the newborn King!
