Nell is a minor female Peanuts character who was introduced in the graphic novel, Scotland Bound, Charlie Brown, which was based on an unproduced TV special by Charles M. Schulz. She is a little Scottish girl who joins the Peanuts gang on their visit to Scotland. She is the first new character to be introduced to the comics after Naomi.
History
Nell is the host of the Peanuts gangs' visit to Scotland because Morag went to Mexico City to visit one of her pen pals. She first meets them at the airport holding a sign that says "Charles Brown". There, she shows them the many great sights of Scotland; she shows them the Edinburgh Castle and her family's farm of hairy coos (cows), to which Lucy takes a liking to and explains about the country's dark history with the plague.
Physical appearance
Nell is a little freckled girl with dark red hair tied in pigtails with two little yellow bows. She wears a dark teal shirt, yellow and white kilt, white socks and black Mary Jane shoes.
Trivia
- She is the first new character introduced in the Peanuts series after Naomi.
- According to the original storyboards, both Charlie Brown and Linus were originally going to have crushes on her and fight for her affections. However, this idea was scrapped.
- However, it's strongly implied that she has romantic feelings for Charlie Brown, as she encourages him to perform his poem at the art and music festival, gives him a hug once he's done and blushes after she asks him if he'll return to Scotland.
- She bares a striking resemblance to Heather and Melody-Melody.
- She is the fifth character in the series to have freckles. The others being Peppermint Patty, Sophie, Loretta and Dolores.
- She is the third character to be from outside the U.S. as she is from Scotland. The first and second were Pierre and Violette from France.
- She is one of the many peanuts characters to wear pigtails. The others being Violet, Sophie, the Little Pigtailed Girl, Dolly and Mimi.
- She is one of the many characters in the series to have a pointed nose. The others are Frieda, Lila, Lydia, Peggy Jean, Babette, Jaques, Dolly, Janice Emmons, Melody-Melody, Mimi, Evelyn, Mary Jo, The Four Princesses, The Cheerleading Squad, Charlotte Braun, C.A.R.A. and Heather.
