Planet snoopy slide

Entrance to Planet Snoopy.

Planet Snoopy is the children's themed area located at Kings Island in Ohio, which opened on April 17, 2010.

History

With the opening of Kings Island in 1972, the park included a dedicated kids area, which was called The Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera (later named Hanna-Barbera Land), named after the production company that Taft Broadcasting, the then-owners of the park, owned. The area consisted of various leftover rides from Coney Island, the park where the footprint of Kings Island stood on, all rethemed to Hanna-Barbera properties. Throughout the years, the area was expanded and given more rides.

In 1993, after the sale of Taft (Then named Great American Broadcasting)'s Theme Park division to Paramount Communications, the company would begin to add their IP's to the park. In 1995, a new themed water area named Nickelodeon Splat City opened up nearby Hanna-Barbera Land. The Nickelodeon theming expanded in 2001 when portions of Hanna-Barbera Land and Rivertown were re-themed into Nickelodeon Central. The area included a new Roller Coaster, a rethemed Log Flume and a stage in addition to the water area already there.

In 2006, Kings Island merged both Hanna-Barbera Land and Nickelodeon Central into one massive themed area known as Nickelodeon Universe, with all the rides existing in the Hanna-Barbera Land themed area becoming themed to Nickelodeon. The theming remained even after the CBS Corporation sold the Paramount Parks to Cedar Fair in the same year.

In 2010, Cedar Fair's contract with Nickelodeon had expired and wasn't renewed, so the company rethemed all the Nickelodeon areas into Planet Snoopy, as the company already had a long-term contract to use the Peanuts characters in their other parks.

In 2014, Snoopy's Splash Dance (the former Green Slime Zone) was closed and demolished to make way for two new rides that opened for the 2015 season - Snoopy's Space Buggies and Woodstock Gliders.

On August 10, 2023, Kings Island announced that Planet Snoopy with the addition of a Camp Snoopy subarea containing two new rides; a roller coaster named Snoopy's Soap Box Racers and a play area named Beagle Scout Acres. A small number of Planet Snoopy attractions were repurposed for the area.
