Do you know a reason why Schulz decided to break up the Peppermint Patty/Pig-Pen relationship? (PeppermintPen?)

No. Like you said, the reason is unknown. Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 00:19, June 1, 2017 (UTC)

While I have no specific evidence to back this up, and I never consulted Mr. Schulz on this and frankly don't know his views on this, having been involved with the cartoon at an early age it seems that Peppermint Patty segued into a relationship with Marcy.

Hello! Glad to meet you.

Hello, Mr. Hughes. I'm MetaKnightFan4. I've been reading on this wiki for over a year, and I decided to join as an editor. Pleased to meet you. I'm brand new to editing on Wikia, so I might make some mistakes. If you come across any errors I make, I sincerely apologize in advance. Thanks for making this a great wiki, and I look forward to helping here. MetaKnightFan4 (talk) 14:40, August 12, 2017 (UTC) MetaKnightFan4

Sometimes I'll respond to general posts on Simon's talk page--I don't think he minds. Let me personally welcome you and ensure that any mistakes made by someone who wants to help are not a big deal--we're happy to have you. Let me know if you feel like you need help. —Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 16:18, August 12, 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome! I'm glad to meet you. And thank you for the notification, and it's comforting to know that it's not a big deal. Thanks again! MetaKnightFan4 (talk) 18:42, August 12, 2017 (UTC)MetaKnightFan4
And I'll personally greet you too and echo what Koavf just said. Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 03:11, August 13, 2017 (UTC)

Songs

I was wondering if it would be okay to make infoboxes for the songs. It would probably have categories like, "Media", "Performers", "Composer" and "Previous/Next Song" (for stuff from musicals/musical shorts). Would that be alright?

Neverland8 (talk) 22:42, August 15, 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I was also wondering if it'd be okay to make an infobox for the musicals. I know there's only two, but I think it'd be helpful to have if you're okay with that. Let me know if that's okay, and thanks! Everyone here is super nice! :D

Neverland8 (talk) 21:11, August 27, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks so much! I have another idea for the musical stuff (sorry I'm super focused on those, the two musicals are kinda my special interest rn). For the songs that have alternate/changed lyrics, I was wondering if I could try to do "hide/show" templates for the alternate choices (similar to the hide/show templates under the History Section on This Wiki . Or, possibly, under the Lyrics section here . Thanks!

Neverland8 (talk) 16:48, August 29, 2017 (UTC)

Would it also be alright to make infoboxes for Actors/People who've worked on Peanuts stuff? I'm sorry if I'm getting annoying in asking for everything, I just don't want to do anything wrong.

Neverland8 (talk) 00:21, September 1, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks :D

Broomstick

Respectfully disagree here, Broomstick is very much a character within the context of Sally's imagination. He is a horse. Yeah, manifested via a broom, but compare for example Lily's Driftwood Bay where the majority of the cast are pieces of driftwood that a girl is playing pretend with.

Surely wencould at least list Broomstick on Sally's page or a list of minor chars. How about the Great Pumpkin for comparison? Also inanimate. talk2ty 06:40, August 27, 2017 (UTC)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MR. HUGHES!!! I hope you have a GREAT time. I'm sorry I haven't been around lately. School came, and I got busy. I'll try to still be able to help out, however. Have a great birthday! MetaKnightFan4 (talk) 00:15, August 30, 2017 (UTC)MetaKnightFan4

A Question Regarding what's Canon

Hi! I wanted to ask a question about Peanuts, and figured I would ask you. Now, I know the TV specials are non-canon, and the movies are also. However, the entire collection of the nearly 50 years worth of strips is all canon. (I think.) What I want to ask is, what about the stories and whatnot that Schulz himself wrote, specifically the collection of 7 story comics shown in Volume 26 of The Complete Peanuts? (I'm assuming you have it.) Are those canon, as Schulz wrote those himself and they're basically larger comics, or are they not, not being part of the core strip? I apologize for creating the Mayor page with so little info. I was intenting to add more info later on if not someone would back me up. I hope it wasen't any trouble. TheGreenBeetle (talk) 03:40, October 23, 2017 (UTC)TheGreenBeetle

It's not a problem as such but in this case, there's nothing more to say about the character. What else could be added? —Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 08:16, October 23, 2017 (UTC)
Exactly. The problem wasn't that the page was a stub, it was that it would always stay a s stub. Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 12:22, October 23, 2017 (UTC)
And in the case of some stubs, creating a redirect is very helpful. Just incorporate that content into a bigger article and that the original short one can be useful. In this case, I don't think it's very likely that anyone will search for "The Mayor" or if he does, will not necessarily be looking for this character. —Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 17:24, October 23, 2017 (UTC)

Well that explains that mystery. What do you think of the video? Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 06:50, November 9, 2017 (UTC)
Agreed: it's low-hanging fruit, "pivot to video"-style video which is fine enough but does not really give you any meaningful context, fudges on some facts, provides no value to the wiki, and makes it slitely less user friendly. Also, being consulted first would have been nice. —Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 07:18, November 9, 2017 (UTC)

Sunday, Sept 13 1953: colorful humor; Linus patting birds debut; pic thumb other than mini full-pic?

Hello Simon! A few questions:

The strip of Sunday, September 13, 1953 centers on seeing Schroeder turn "three shades of green", but in black-and-white the humor of this is essentially lost. Would it be permissible to replace the existing image with one where the three full-images of Schroeder turning green are in color; and could a 900-pixel wide main image, as is used in the later era, be used here (while the thumb on the September page itself would still be 600 pixels, like the other strips on the page)?

Second, the article on "Patting birds" mentions the first time Linus did this in the strip in 1962; however, this idea actually first appeared back in 1959, in the first 8-page interior story in Dell Comics' Four Color/Peanuts #1015, issue-dated Aug-Oct '59. Viewing it, I'm certain this story is by Schulz himself (besides the fact that it was issued contemporaneously with Nancy #169, where the Peanuts story is well-established as Schulz's, so this time frame for Schulz's own contribution to Dell comics is already known); but even if his authorship is not definitively stated, the fact remains that it IS an authorized Peanuts story specifically depicting Linus patting birds on the head, and it should be acknowledged as this trope's proper origin. Anyway, I want to include an excerpt of this story to be linked from the article; specifically, the full story runs over 60 panels, and I have devised an 18-panel sampling of it, in a "collage-style" since it's not a continual run of the story's panels, and I have arranged it 3 panels across by 6 down, in color. I'm mainly wondering what would be the acceptable size for this overall image; if it's sized 900 pixels across then its height is 1500 pixels — is this an acceptable size? Also, this item leads me to a related question: I wouldn't really want the thumbnail to be the entire image shrunk down to show 18 tiny panels — does this wiki have a feature to allow the thumbnail for a linked image to be something other than the full image in miniature (I'm thinking of a four-panel-arranged-2x2 thumbnail)?

Thanks! Cat Noir's Pawse (talk) 00:23, August 8, 2018 (UTC)

A Comic Union

Good day to you, Simon Peter Hughes,

To introduce myself, I am an administrator on the Garfield wiki, along with two others, namely TeeJay87 and Low Spark of Lyman. As of late, we've been thinking of building an alliance with you, hopefully alongside the Calvin and Hobbes wiki (provided they accept). It shall be a union between wikis concerning comics strips. If you'd like, we can negotiate further conditions, and ultimately build up the union. We hope you will accept our offer. Best wishes, Cooljoe01.

Tho don't want to step on Simon's toes, I am interested in hearing more. What would this look like? How would anything be different? —Justin (koavf)·T·C 07:27, January 27, 2019 (UTC)
You're not stepping on my toes. I've already responded and said that I'm interested here on Garfield Wiki. Cooljoe01 said that he's like to hear from you too. Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 07:36, January 27, 2019 (UTC)
Brilliant. If you are driving it, there is no reason for me to insert myself but it's nice of you and Joe to ask for my interest. —Justin (koavf)·T·C 09:37, January 27, 2019 (UTC)
Actually Koavf, we also want you to be part of our union. Since you are an active admin, you and Simon have the choices to both be part of the union, and you'll both have the choice of voicing your own opinions. The next port of call, is to find speedy communication tool. The current Garfield wiki administrators use Discord, but it isn't completely necessary. We are happy to have you both on board. Cooljoe01 (Talk) (27 Jan 2019 1:43 PM SAST) 11:43, January 27, 2019 (UTC)
Right then, when shall you fellows be free to discuss the matter? Cooljoe01 (Talk) (31 Jan 2019 2:31 PM SAST) 12:31, January 31, 2019 (UTC)
Well, not until after Tuesday. i'm going away on holiday tomorrow (Friday 1 February). I'll be back on Tuesday 5 February. Simon Peter Hughes (talk)
I really shouldn't be a dependency. You can work out whatever you need with Simon and I can just get whatever relevant facts afterword. Thanks to you both. —Justin (koavf)·T·C 15:48, January 31, 2019 (UTC)

As promised, I have the rules done. If you have an opposition to any, just notify me:

1) – No wiki is above all, and each have their equal say.
2) – The union system shall run under a democratic rule. Voting shall take place among the administrators in order to introduce or argue about new/old rules, provided they have a rational argument.
3) Each administrator is entitled to their opinion, and with a provided rational argument, can change their views whenever they feel it to be necessary.
4) – Wikis are not held to their position, and can exit or rejoin whenever they feel it to be a choice idea. This doesn’t apply to wikis previously ousted from the union for the specific reasoning.
5) – Any type of vandalism is disagreed upon, and any administrator who exhibits any behaviour of the kind will be ousted.
6) – If a contributor brings forth an idea to any member of the union, members will need to give their opinions, and ultimately decide if it’s needed or not.
7) – If a union wiki is in need of assistance concerning maintenance (i.e. articles, images, etc.), voluntary help can be provided by other union members. Union members can back out if they suddenly become unavailable.
8) – If a union wiki is in need of assistance concerning translation into a foreign language, voluntary help can be provided by other union members. Union members can back out if they suddenly become unavailable.
9) – In the case of a large-scale vandal attack, all union members will be granted temporary administrative positions in order to co-cooperatively combat the happenings.
10) – Aggressive arguments should be overall be avoided by union members, and general friendliness should be exhibited.

Cooljoe01 (Talk) (16 Feb 2019 12:45 AM SAST)

SEO File Page Test

Hey Simon!

I'm here to let you know that Fandom has been in the midst of conducting an SEO test on some wikis, and this test is now being expanded to include the Peanuts Wiki! It aims at improving the search engine ranking for Fandom communities.

Some details: Anonymous/non logged-in users who land on file pages will be automatically redirected to the first article page that the file is used on. For example, if they click "https://peanuts.fandom.com/wiki/File:Charlie_Brown_smiling.png" on Google, it will instead link them to the Charlie Brown page. Fandom hopes that this will have a positive impact on search engine rankings and help anonymous users (who are usually clueless about wikis) find what they're looking for more easily.

Logged-in users will see absolutely no change, so you may not notice anything of this test, but I just wanted to give you a heads up anyway, in case any anonymous users reach out to you with questions.

If you have any questions of your own, please let me know :) —idekmandy 05:08, August 8, 2019 (UTC)

Snoopy in Space

Hey Simon! I'm not sure if you heard, but Apple TV+ is coming out with a new series called Snoopy In Space, which will be released with the platform on November 1. The official trailer dropped recently and you can check it out here if you haven't already. I noticed there isn't a page created for the series yet, so I just wanted to check in and see if you have any plans for adding that information or if you need any assistance. Let me know and I'll be happy to help! —idekmandy

Just wanted to give you a heads up that I'll be making very minor changes to the navigation and home page to include links to Snoopy in Space before it premieres tomorrow. The wiki should see an increase in traffic and it's important that readers can easily access that content. Let me know what you think about the changes or if you have any objections. —idekmandy 21:57, October 31, 2019 (UTC)

Is 5 more of a minor character or could be classified as supporting since he appeared for a decade or two?

Although 5 continued to appear in the strip off and on for twenty years, he stopped being the focus of many strips after a matter of weeks and then faded into the background. In the fifty year history of Peanuts, he's a very minor character. Simon Peter Hughes (talk)

Regarding my edits on "Good Sport"

I know it happened a year ago, but I just have to ask, what did you mean by "checking" my edits by reverting them and then un-reverting? --1RichardHunt (talk) 07:04, December 4, 2019 (UTC)

Unless it was done by an editor I know and trust very well, I check every edit to this wiki to see if it's vandalism, badly written, incorrect or a problem for some other reason. If somebody I don't know has made a lot of edits to a page, the quickest and easiest way for me to check all the changes is to rollback. That takes a lot less time than looking at each difference in the edit history. If the changes are good, I'll then undo my rollback. Simon Peter Hughes (talk)

You undid an edit of mine because you misread my change. On the Frieda page of the Peanuts wiki, I included an addition that pointed out that Frieda does wear a baseball cap on occasion and inserted the April 18, 1965 Sunday strip as an example of her doing this. You removed my edit, claiming that April 18, 1985 was not a Sunday.  If you would just examine my edit again, you would see that I said 1965, not 1985. April 18, 1965 was indeed a Sunday, and as you can see, Frieda is indeed wearing a ballcap, as you can see here: https://www.gocomics.com/peanuts/1965/04/18 Please read more carefully in the future to avoid mistakes like this. Hey there, I'm MakeShift, and I've been assigned to take over as your Wiki Manager for the Peanuts Wiki! I'm here to help you guys and act as a sort of "liaison" between you and full-time Fandom staff, and to generally help you make sure your wiki's in tip-top shape.

Also, while I'm introducing myself, I might bring up Fandom's latest project, in case you're unfamiliar with it, the Unified Community Platform, or UCP. In how the UCP affects the general user, the project will seek to make editing and getting around wikis a whole lot easier, so it's nothing but an upgrade in terms of editing and content creation, and a bonafide benefit to all.

I'll be here during the whole process and well past it to help with any concerns you guys might have, so by all means don't hesitate to contact me if you need an assist! —MakeShift (talk · contribs) 03:14, February 28, 2020 (UTC)

Woodstock

Woodstock first appearance is 4.4.1967, NOT 3.4.1966.

That's not what our article says. And I suggest you discuss this on the Woodstock article talk page before making any further changes. Simon Peter Hughes (talk) 04:50, February 28, 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your additions to the two pages I added, Mrs. Bartley and Mrs. Nelson. In reading the Peanuts strip years ago, I remember this as being one of my favorite story lines in the series, and I felt that these two unseen characters deserved to be included. I'm also relieved that no one seems to think these two are unworthy of inclusion and deleted my additions. PJC65 (talk) 14:28, March 7, 2020 (UTC)
